Monsoon Mayhem: India's Floods and Landslides Claim Over 100 Lives

The annual monsoon season has brought devastation to India, with floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains claiming the lives of over 100 people since July. The northeastern state of Assam has been hit the hardest, with at least 87 people killed, including 47 in the Sivasagar district. The situation is dire, with thousands forced to flee their homes and seek shelter in relief camps. In Kerala, at least 15 people have been killed, and seven are missing, while in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, 31 people have lost their lives. The monsoon season has also brought severe weather to other parts of the country, including lightning strikes that have killed at least 22 people in Bihar and Jharkhand. The region's long summers and subsequent monsoon rains have created a perfect storm of water scarcity and floods, highlighting the need for better disaster management and climate resilience. Neighboring Sri Lanka has also been affected, with unusually heavy monsoon rains causing flash floods and mudslides that have claimed the lives of at least eight people.
