Broad Peak Tragedy: Bodies of Five Climbers Recovered, Total Death Toll Rises to Eight

A devastating avalanche on July 30 struck a 10-member international expedition team on Broad Peak, resulting in the loss of several lives. The recovery efforts have been challenging, but the bodies of five more climbers have been airlifted to Skardu, bringing the total to eight. The reception ceremony for the deceased climbers was attended by prominent figures, including Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Speaker Imran Nadeem, and representatives from the Alpine Club of Pakistan. The bodies were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital for necessary formalities before being prepared for repatriation to their home countries. Celebrated Nepali climber Nirmal Purja, who holds the record for the fastest ascent of the world's 14 highest mountains, was among those who lost their lives in the tragedy. The search team is still working to recover the bodies of two remaining climbers, including Pakistan's Sohail Sakhi.
