Global Peace at Stake: Pakistan and China Unite to Urge US and Iran to End Hostilities

In a recent meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, both nations emphasized the need for the United States and Iran to put an end to their ongoing hostilities and resume diplomatic talks. This appeal comes at a critical time, as the renewed fighting between the US and Iran threatens to undermine the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which was established to bring an end to the conflict. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO) in Shanghai, highlighted the shared concerns of Pakistan and China regarding the deteriorating situation in the region. During their discussion, Dar and Wang exchanged views on the current state of affairs in Iran and coordinated their positions, ultimately calling on all parties involved to cease hostilities and work towards a comprehensive peace agreement through negotiations. China's foreign ministry noted that the first-phase memorandum of understanding reached between the US and Iran was a hard-won achievement, resulting from both bilateral negotiations and international efforts. Wang praised Pakistan's indispensable role in mediating the situation, stating that the core provisions of the memorandum served the long-term interests of all parties involved and met the expectations of the international community. The Chinese foreign minister also urged all parties to fulfill their commitments and abide by the memorandum, emphasizing that peace is within reach and should not be allowed to slip away. In addition to their discussions on the US-Iran conflict, Dar and Wang reviewed the Pakistan-China bilateral relationship, expressing satisfaction with the continued growth and strength of their strategic cooperative partnership. They reaffirmed their commitment to advancing high-quality development under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0 and agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, science, technology, and artificial intelligence.
