Karachi Shaken: Minor Earthquake Hits Pakistan's Largest City

A low-intensity earthquake struck Karachi, sending tremors through various parts of the city. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the 2.9-magnitude quake occurred at 6:01 pm, with its epicentre located within Karachi. Fortunately, no immediate reports of casualties or damage have been reported. The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, is a reminder of the region's seismic activity due to its location on the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Pakistan has experienced several devastating earthquakes in recent years, including a 5.8-magnitude quake in February that affected Islamabad, Swat, and Hunza, and the 2005 earthquake in Azad Kashmir that resulted in over 73,000 fatalities. Experts emphasize the importance of preparedness and relief efforts in the country's earthquake-prone areas, where rugged terrain can complicate rescue operations.
