Terrorist Plot Foiled: 18 Militants Killed in Balochistan Blast and Subsequent Operation

In a significant blow to terrorist organizations, a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) prematurely detonated in the Surab district of Balochistan, killing at least eight terrorists affiliated with the Indian proxy group Fitna al-Hindustan. The blast, which occurred while the device was being prepared, also triggered the detonation of other explosives stored at the site, resulting in the deaths of three nearby civilians and injuring several militants. Following the incident, security forces and Balochistan Police launched a joint clearance operation to track down the perpetrators and their facilitators. During the operation, security forces detected the movement of fleeing terrorists and engaged them, killing 10 militants. Two soldiers were injured in the exchange of fire. The operation is part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam, which aims to eliminate terrorism from the region. This campaign has been intensified in recent years, particularly in the KP and Balochistan provinces, where terrorist activities have surged since 2021. The Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) has reported that these two provinces remain the country's main hotspots for violence, accounting for nearly 96% of all violence-related fatalities in the second quarter of 2026.
