Tokyo Zoo Tragedy: Heatwave Claims Lives of Three Female Lions

A devastating heatwave has struck Japan, claiming the lives of three female lions at the Tama Zoological Park in Tokyo. The scorching temperatures, which exceeded 40°C, led to heat stress, causing the deaths of 3-year-old Mugi, 11-year-old Ichigo, and 15-year-old Luena. The zoo had taken measures to mitigate the heat, including spraying water, using industrial fans, and providing intravenous liquid and medicine, but unfortunately, it was not enough to save the three lions. The zoo has since closed the lions' enclosure and is providing treatment to the remaining lions, with four showing signs of recovery. The heatwave has also affected humans, with over 43,000 people hospitalized for heatstroke across Japan. The Tama Zoo has discontinued its popular lion safari bus ride indefinitely, citing the extreme weather conditions.
