Tragedy on Hungarian Motorway: Polish Bus Accident Claims 12 Lives

A devastating bus accident occurred on a Hungarian motorway, resulting in the loss of 12 lives and injuring dozens more. The bus, which was carrying Polish pilgrims, veered off the M3 motorway and overturned into a ditch. According to authorities, the driver, who has been taken into custody, is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel. The accident happened at around 01:00 local time on Sunday, and emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene. Firefighters managed to rescue 35 of the 57 passengers and two drivers, while cranes were used to lift the 24-tonne bus to free those trapped underneath. The injured were treated by Hungary's ambulance service, with one person suffering life-threatening injuries, nine with serious injuries, and 37 with minor injuries. The Polish and Hungarian prime ministers have offered their condolences to the families of the victims and wished those injured a speedy recovery. The bus was returning from a pilgrimage in Bosnia and Herzegovina, carrying passengers from Poland's southernmost region of Podkarpacie.
