Nationwide Strike by Goods Transporters Continues Amidst Stalled Talks with Government

A nationwide strike by goods transporters in Pakistan has entered its fifth day, with no signs of a breakthrough in talks between the transporters and the government. The strike, which began on Saturday, was called by the All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association (APGTOA) in protest against rising fuel costs, daily diesel price adjustments, and various taxation and regulatory measures that are affecting the transport sector. The government has agreed not to increase toll taxes for one year and to keep petroleum prices stable for one to two weeks, but the transporters are insisting that their demands be met in full. The strike has caused widespread disruptions to the supply chain, with goods worth millions of rupees stuck in transit. The transporters have vowed to continue their strike until their demands are accepted, while the government is trying to find a way to end the impasse. The Ministry of Communications has announced that state-of-the-art weigh stations will be built on all motorways to address the transporters' complaints. The situation remains uncertain, with the transporters and the government locked in a stalemate.
