Sindh Province to Observe Chehlum Holiday: Schools and Colleges to Remain Closed on August 4

The Sindh School Education Department has declared a provincial holiday on August 4, 2026, to commemorate the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). This decision applies to all public and private educational institutions under the jurisdiction of the School Education Department. The holiday coincides with the 20th of Safar 1448 AH, marking the 40th day of mourning after the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala. As a result, all government and private schools will remain closed on August 4, allowing students and staff to observe this significant occasion. Furthermore, the Sindh Home Department has imposed a province-wide ban on pillion riding on the occasion of Chehlum, and extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another month, effective from August 1. This move aims to maintain law and order during the mourning processions, which will feature Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah, and are expected to take place in various cities across Sindh.
